M.I.A. once again

As you may, or may not know, I've been mostly out of action for the last few months due to health issues, surgery, and recovery time. I was hoping to be feeling normal, or close to it, by this time, but unfortunately, I am not.

There have been some complications. Nothing serious, just discouraging, frustrating, stressful and, quite frankly, depressing.

I am back to work, but will have to go to part-time (half-days) for awhile. I would love to stay at home, but I can't afford to. It will be better for me mentally to go to work and keep part of my normal schedule anyway.

I saw the doctor yesterday, the one who did the surgery, and she said my incisions are healing nicely, I look good and the complications are not unusual. She said it may take a few more weeks. I have no other health issues, except Asthma, which is not a complication in all this (well, maybe a minor one, but not serious), and I do try to take care of myself. All big pluses, she says.

I thought I would be over all this stuff by now. She was very empathic as I have been having a hard time with this all week long. It's been an emotional roller coaster. She told me to have patience....it WILL come to end eventually.

God, I hope so.

So, I will be M.I.A. for a bit longer.

My Surgery -- Finally over

My surgery last week went well. I guess as far as surgeries go, anyway. It ended up being more involved than the doctor had first thought. It took 3-4 hours instead of 2, I lost a liter of blood, ended staying in the hospital for 3-days instead of going home the same day.

The doctor went in laproscopically as planned to remove my alien, so I have 4-small incisions from that, but my alien ended up being much bigger than first thought. It was not the size of a lemon. It turned out to be the size of a grapefruit AND it was attached to a section of my bowel, one of the arteries for the kidneys, the back of my uterus and my pelvis. I basically had to have a C-section, so I have a scar on my bikini line that runs from hip to hip. It turned out NOT to be cancerous.

I'll be off of work longer than planned. I have a 4-6 week recovery time, but the doctor said since I have a mostly sit-down job with no heavy lifting, I could go back to work earlier if I felt up to it.

If you don't see me around for a while, it's because I'm laying around trying to heal. I'll try to check in when I can, but I have no clue how often, or when that will be.

In surgery

By the time you read this, I will be headed into surgery to have my little "alien" friend (and I use that term "friend" very loosely) removed.

I've been scared to death for about a week, worried about every little possibility that could go wrong. I know the procedure is a minor one, but I've been living through all sorts of havoc going on inside of my body because of that little monster. It's hard to keep focused.

All I want is to feel normal again. I hope this procedure does the trick.

Anyway, if you don't see me around, that's because I'm taking time off for recovery. About a week and a half. So, please cross your fingers for me. I'd really, really appreciate it.

And don't for get to pick up, or tell others to pick up, a copy of my latest release, NUMBER 69. Yes, I know. I'm lying on the operating table and I'm plugging my book. Inspiration for NUMBER 69

Authors are often asked, "What inspires you?" The answer to that question varies from author to author and from story to story.

What inspired me to write my latest release, NUMBER 69?

Honestly, my friend, Lisa Fox did. Well, maybe not her personally, but she was involved.

You see, she wrote a short story for a contest and one of the prizes was a pair of vibrating panties. Needless to say, she won the panties, but the idea of them struck something in my imagination. I asked myself, "Do they make remote controlled vibrating panties? Do they make ones that have a wireless remote?" Wouldn't that be fun?

Imagine being out somewhere with the love of your life while wearing those panties and he had control of the remote. Sounds like a scene from the movie, THE UGLY TRUTH with Gerard Butler (He can have control of my remote anytime!)

What if a stranger controlled the remote to your panties? What if that stranger was a handsome doctor? The possibilities are endless.

A person's imagination can be sparked by the simplest thing and grow to become a story all its own.

What has sparked your imagination lately?

What kind of party has a person wearing vibrating panties? From what she could get out of Trudy, the organizers worked very hard to match up the couples for compatibility. She couldn't imagine a posh place like the Crystal Hotel allowing a bunch of pervs to have a sex party in their ballroom. The organizers must be a legitimate matchmaking company with a twist if the hotel was allowing them to rent out the ballroom.
Still. Vibrating panties. That sounded weird.
Geez, first she's intrigued by the garment, and now they're weird. Make up your mind, Melodie.

Those eyes that could look deep into her most secret of souls, glanced quickly down at her nametag and immediately softened with humor. All Set For Surgery...I think

Well, I'm all pre-registered at the hospital for my laparoscopic procedure. I had a doctors exam and consult yesterday. Next I have a nurse consult in a couple weeks and I'll have a pre-op consult at some point as well

One of these blood pressure meds, the beta-blocker, messes with my asthma (among other things). I can't wait to get off of that. But....one day at a time. That's all I can do.

I miss feeling "normal".

First, I want to say thank you to all those that sent well wishes and kind comments on my blog, through email, or phone calls. Every single one of those messages means a lot to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's nice to know others care, and who they are. I didn't feel quite so alone going through all this crazy health stuff. It's not over yet, but I think the end is near. I hope so anyway.

A couple weeks ago (or maybe it wasn't that long ago. Days are sort of running together), I had a CT Angiogram done of my lower extremities. Simply put, it was a scan from my chest to my knees, so they could look at my organs, specifically my kidneys and spleen. Everything looks good, but the scan did show a "mass" on my left side near my ovary.

Yesterday, I had an Ultrasound done of my bladder and an internal Ultrasound of my uterus and ovaries, etc. I don't know the technical term for that procedure, but it gave them a better look at my "mass" or Alien, as I like to refer to it. Blood was drawn as well to check for some sort of cancer markers. If these markers come back high then I have cancer and both ovaries and my uterus will have to be removed. If they are low, only the Alien needs to be removed.

This is what they found:

My Alien has completely taken over my left ovary and is the size of a lemon. If I drink vodka, then jump up and down, does that make me a Tom Collins? HA! Get it? A Tom Collins is vodka with lemon. Okay, bad attempt at a joke.

Anyway, there is no ovarian tissue there at all, according to the doctor. My right ovary is fine. There is also a polyp on the lining (in the lining?) of my uterus. My cancer markers came back only slightly elevated, which the doctor said was probably due to inflammation. Sooooooooo, I will have laparoscopic surgery sometime after the first of the year to remove my Alien.

I am feeling a bit better now that they figured out what type and amounts of meds to be on for hypertension. That's a fancy way of saying I have high blood pressure. My pressure is slowly, very slowly coming down.

That's about it for now. I'll be off and on here since I still have doctor appointments and such yet. And I still have some bad days that I just can't make it online.

As you may or may not know, Casey has been dealing with some health issues. She was in the hospital in mid-October and since then has undergone a lot of tests.

They thought maybe it was her heart, but all tests and indications show her heart to be just fine. She did some sort of scan of her kidneys and spleen last friday, and she got the results yesterday.

Her kidneys are fine. There's no blockage anywhere, but they did find a "mass" on her left side. It is near her left ovary and is about 7cm. That's all we know right now.

I'm sure she would love to see that you people care.

Do You StumbleUpon?

I do.

I'm not sure I really understand what it's all about, and I'm not super active with it, but I do have an account and every once in a while, I'll stumble, or share things I like. I also have a Stumble option in my tool bar below so any of you (or anyone else, really) can stumble (share) any of my blog posts on StumbleUpon. I know there's other ways of sharing content, etc. on there, but I don't understand them all. I'm not very tech-savvy.

I recently read on another blog, that StumbleUpon is a good way for an author to promote herself (or himself), her brand, her blog, that kind of stuff. I'm all for trying to promote my work and stuff, especially since I'm not particularly good at it. I'll take all the help I can get.

As I read further into that blog post, the author said you should never "stumble" your own stuff.

Wait a minute.

Didn't she just say StumbleUpon is a good tool for promotion? So how can it be a good promotional tool if I can't promote myself? Am I supposed to wait around for someone else to do it for me?

Why is it, no matter where you go, an author isn't supposed to promote themselves, their work, their blog posts? If they can't promote themselves, how is anyone ever going to know they exist, or read their blog, and their books?

I'll "stumble" my own posts, books, whatever. Because it's my responsibility to promote my writing. My responsibility. Of course, I appreciate any and all help I get, but it is my responsibility to get the ball rolling.

Health Issue Vol. 2

Since I have this "issue" with my health, a journey I guess you could call it, I thought I'd share my "travels", take you with me. Like it or not.

Will this be a weekly post? We'll see. I know everyone likes regularity (lol), I do too, but I'm not sure how all this is going yet.

I went into the hospital on Oct 17th. A Monday. I got out a couple days later and went back to work that Friday. I shouldn't have gone back to work so soon. I should have waited until the following Monday, but it was either go to work on Friday or stay at home and stew (read: worry). So, I opted for work. There was no way I would have been able to concentrate on writing, either.

Honestly, I was still frightened over all the stuff that happened at the hospital. So much so, that I packed a bag in case I needed to go back. Weird.

I'm glad that part is over with. I am feeling better than I was two weeks ago, not 100% yet, but I am better. Changes in my lifestyle need to be made, although I don't have to make too drastic a change. Instead of exercising 3-4 times a week, I have found I'll have to do it everyday. Ugh. There's also some dietary changes I have to do. I REFUSE to give up chocolate! There's no way I'm giving that up! Can't make me.

I started walking for exercise, but since we are now off Daylight Savings, it will get dark at 5:00 p.m., so I have some exercise DVD's at home. Do I HAVE to do this everyday? Yes. It was suggested, but entirely up to me at the same time. I've been walking everyday since I got out of the hospital, except this weekend. I took those two days off. And now I feel....funky. Not bad, just not right. Besides, I missed going.

The worst thing is I've become a bit paranoid. Every little thing I feel that isn't normal, I immediately think, "Oh my god! Do I need to go to the hospital? Am I having a stroke/heartattack/_____(fill-in-the-blank)?" I do NOT want to live like that.

I don't know if it's worse going through this kind of crap when you're young or when you're old. I sort of expected I'd have something to deal with when I got old, like 70+. But I'm not anywhere near that.

Oh, good news...I think I may have lost some weight because of the exercise and the sort of strict eating. My clothes fit different. So that's a good thing. And the best thing? I didn't have to give up chocolate to do it.

Health Update

Just in case you were wondering, I thought I'd give you an update on my health status.

Things are improving, just not as quickly as I want them to. I am taking medication and the side effects are sort of off and on. I would think they would be over with by now, but I've been told by the Pharmacist and others that this stuff will make me feel weird for weeks. Not what I wanted to hear.

So far, my heart has been doing okay and my blood pressure is going down. Geez, that makes me sound like I'm a 90-year old woman. LOL! Anyone laughs and I'll hit you with my cane! HA!

Anyway, the cardiologist told me the left side of my heart is stretched and the best cure for it is to get my blood pressure down and to exercise. That's what I've been trying to do. It's only been a week since I've gotten out of the hospital, so it's not like I've made all this huge advancement. I wish I could say otherwise because I'm anxious to be normal again. One thing that does bother me, is this medication screws with my asthma meds. We'll have to figure something out with that.

Well, I purchased some iTone shoes by Avia. Everything I've read about these shoes, and others like them, is that no one really noticed if they worked for the toning aspect. Which I guess sucks if that's why you bought them. But despite that, people who said the toning was unnoticeable also said these shoes were the most comfortable walking shoes they ever owned. That's why I bought them, for walking and for comfort, and they truly are comfy. I wouldn't wear them for running necessarily, but if you walk for exercise, these are good.

So that's it for now. Nothing exciting, nothing big. Just small baby steps. After all, that's all I can handle with my cane. =)

MIA - In the Hospital

Just in case you may have been wondering where I was this week, I have been in the hospital.
I went into the emergency room early Monday morning, hooked up to monitors, given scary meds, and thought I was literally going to die at one point. I've never been so scared in my life.

I went home a couple days ago with some meds that make me feel, well, weird. I'm moving slowly, thinking slowly, and it's frustrating. So far, mornings are the worst. I feel tired, sluggish, weighted down, nauseated, and just plain icky.

My posts here and my presence elsewhere (Facebook, Twitter, etc) will be sporadic. I'll be in and out of the hospital and the doctor's office. I'll check in as often as I can.

Movie Monday - Drop Dead Fred

I thought this was a great movie. It's gross, sassy, and funny! How can you not like it?

Phoebe Cates is an ultra conservative (in dress and manner) woman with a husband too much for her to handle. He likes the flashy, fashionable type, and she is not.

Lizzy (played by Phoebe) conjures up her old imaginary friend, Drop Dead Fred (played by Rik Mayall). Fred helped her through a difficult childhood and now that she's trying to get her butthead husband back, deal with a controlling, neat-freak mother, Fred comes back to help. And he does it with a lot of fun.

I thought this movie was hilarious.

Not Feeling Well

About a month ago, I went to see the doctor and received some unpleasant news. Nothing tragic, but certainly not good.

I have been feeling a bit "off", for lack of better terminology, which is why I went to the doc in the first place. I am, hopefully, on the mend, but won't know for certain until next month's appointment.

It is a difficult thing that I am dealing with, but not tragic, like I said. It's just, well, hard. I have been trying to keep a normal schedule and do all the normal things I do along with keeping my sassy personality at it's functioning level. But it's hard.

So, if I've seemed like a space cadet, or just plain rude, over the past few weeks, I apologize. I'm sure it will happen again over the next month and I want to apologize in advance. I appreciate all the Twitter love I get from some of you (you know who you are). I wish I could reciprocate the way I want to.

Anyway, I'm not going anywhere (yet), so don't think you're rid of me. Don't be surprised if there's a day that I seem particularly quiet. It's just one of those difficult days, but I'll be back. Can't say I didn't warn you *grin*

The Collective by Maxwell Cynn - A Review

The Collective captured my attention from the very first sentence. "I'm not crazy." Only a crazy person would make that claim, right? I HAD to find out why someone would just blurt that out.

In the book, the Collective is a group that has been around way before the Internet existed. A group that wants everyone to conform to their way of thinking, acting, etc., for the betterment of mankind, the betterment of society. Or what they, the Collective, perceive to be the best. The Internet has made it easy for them to accomplish this. Take away the individuality of a person and he becomes a drone, acting and behaving the way he's programmed.

The Collective uses the Internet as their own personal lab experiment, using subliminal messages to get us to buy certain items, to view things a certain way, to have a certain opinion, to modify behaviors. But there are those who won't conform, who fight to keep their individuality, and that of others. Dr John Peterson, or CG, is one of those warriors.

Sounds interesting, doesn't it? While I was reading this book I kept thinking, "This could really be happening." It wouldn't be difficult either. Look at social media for instance. How many people use Facebook every day? Every hour? It would be the perfect opportunity for something to flash across the computer screen and reach millions of people at once. The flash would hardly be noticeable, a blip that wouldn't be seen if you happened to blink at the right time. That blip could reprogram your thinking. Maybe only in a small way, but if you received enough blips over time, you'd end up being as programmed as your computer. After all, almost every device that's on the market nowadays connects to the Internet.

Now I sound crazy.

The Collective captured my attention and held it. It's a story that fits well into today's world where people gather together, collect themselves, on the Internet.

CG and his followers show how indomitable the human spirit can be, how precious our individuality is. It's worth fighting for.

The characters are well written, and I found myself empathizing with CG. He trusts someone he shouldn't, and he does it more than once, he questions his reality, and his sanity, loses loved ones. We've all been there, haven't we?

This is an awesome story that I highly recommend and Maxwell Cynn is an author to watch. He's going places.

Number 69 by Casey Sheridan

Last week on Books-n-Kisses, I announced I sold my contemporary erotic novella, Number 69 to Breathless Press.

In that post, I asked the question: "Have you ever been to an adult store?" I had a lot of fun reading all the responses and it was great that everyone was so open and honest about their experiences that ranged from painfully shy to bold and brash.

Characters - Getting to know them

As an author, I like to take a moment or two before writing a scene to visualize the surroundings through the point of view (POV) characters eyes. What is it that he/she will see, smell, touch, etc. Sometimes I'll look through magazines, or online, for a room, building, setting, that is similar to where the character will be.

I also like to visualize my characters. What do they look like? How tall are they? What type or style of clothes do they wear?

I like to take time to get to know their personalities as well. Their quirks and gestures, their manner of speaking, etc.

Doing these things makes my characters and their surroundings real to me and I hope that is conveyed in my writing.

As a reader, do you feel this is true in the books you read? I know authors don't put disclaimers in their books letting you know how much time they actually spent getting acquainted with their characters, but is it apparent during your reading if an author took time to get to know the characters? Can you tell if the author just shook the character's hand, took their name and vital stats, but didn't learn anything more about them?

For quite some time I waded through all the hoopla that is Thor and Chris Hemsworth thinking "Pffffft. What's the big deal?"

Now that I've actually watched the movie, I now understand the big deal.

The movie is quite good. It's filled with action, has humor, some cool effects, and Chris Hemsworth. *drool*.

No one is going to win an Academy Award for their performance in this movie, so don't think you'll be watching some touchy-feely-artsy movie with some profound message that takes your breath away.

Instead, this movie is pure entertainment. It's light and it's fun. The best part, for me, and for other women I'm sure, is when Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, is wearing nothing but a pair of jeans. And those jeans look as if they're about to drop past his hips. I wish they would have. *grin*. The guy is cut in all the right ways and in all the right places. He has a pair of biceps I would love to get my hands on. I think the scruffy, brooding look works well for Mr. Hemsworth. I like it much better than the innocent boy next door thing he usually has going.

I think I may need to watch this movie again. =)

Ruby Red Metallic is a 2012 EPIC Ebooks Award Finalist

I just learned that Ruby Red Metallic is one the five final books in the Short Story category of the 2012 EPIC Ebook Awards. Is that cool, or what?

I'm so excited!

I know the first publisher I submitted Ruby Red Metallic to, the editor liked the concept of a woman car thief, but hated Alaina. I couldn't change Alaina's character. Mostly because Alaina herself wouldn't let me. (lol) I'm glad I didn't.

I want to thank Breathless Press for believing in Alaina and Ruby Red Metallic. And I want to thank my editor, Denise Lewis, who has since left BP for other things, for helping me make Ruby Red Metallic the best it could be

My Interview with Casey Ryan

Yes, that really is Casey Ryan over there on the left. I guess maybe I should have asked him first if I could steal his image and post it on here.

Anyway, last night was my first phone interview and it was with the adorable Casey Ryan.

I was extremely nervous, to say the least. I was literally shaking. One thing that happens to me when I'm nervous is my face flushes and gets hot. My cheeks were so hot, my skin prickled. But Casey had no idea about any of this since he can't see me. We were on the phone after all.

He asked me some really good questions and I had a lot of fun. Well, I didn't realize how much fun I was actually having until the interview was almost over. I never knew 30 minutes could fly by so fast!

Eden Baylee, the nicest person on the planet, not to mention talented and sexy, was instrumental in getting Casey and I together for this. (Thank you, Eden. xoxo)

And a giant thank you to Casey Ryan for doing the interview. I really had fun. Once I was past being nervous, that is. =)

Casey: Thank you, Brenda and Steve, for coming to my party and for popping my ménage cherry. Please make yourselves comfy. The rest of you people need to put the cameras away! There isn’t any threesome action happening…..yet. *grin* Talk first, action later.

Tell us about yourselves. Who is Brenda? Who is Steve?

Brenda: Oh, we love being your first threesome. We’ll be gentle, I promise *weg* First we’ll get comfortable (takes off jammies). There much better. Psst Casey, we don’t wear PJs. I’m what you would call a ‘very giving person’. Heck, I’ll give the shirt off my back as the saying goes. I love to interview and promote fellow authors. I also write articles as a freelance writer for several sites. Working from home has always been my dream. With Steve’s support, I have accomplished my goals: becoming a published author and being my own boss. We have a Chihuahua, Patch, he’s 14, 7 kids and 4 grandkids between us.

Steve: WOW, a threesome with Brenda and Casey. Can I take notes for future stories? LOL So much to do crammed into one day. I’m an Excel programmer who works from home when I can. People tell me I’m very logical and logic helps me when I write with Brenda.

Casey: It seems I’m on a roll with guests that sleep naked. Fine by me!

How does a story develop? Does one of you write one scene and the other write another scene?

Brenda: Depends on what’s happening in the story. We connect our laptops and write the scenes together or one of us writes while the other dictates. I’m good at adding the fluff. We both come up with the ideas, characters and titles.

Steve: We take turns writing, either separately or with our laptops connected but edit together. Once the edits are complete, we have been told readers can’t tell where I end and Brenda begins. It’s almost seamless.

Casey: I saw on your site, “Stories from both male and female perspective” Does this mean that Steve only writes the male POV and Brenda writes only the female POV?

Brenda: No, we write the opposite gender too. We discuss how each will react to various situations. We also ask each other questions like, “If I touch you here, what does it feel like?”, so the scene is realistic. The research is certainly fun! When either of us is writing in the opposite gender, we discuss whether or not the character would say this or that. Writing as a team, we give special insights from both the male and female perspective.

Steve: Research is always fun when working with Brenda. I thought I knew a lot about women until I started writing with Brenda. She has taught me a lot since 2009.

Casey: I also read on your site that you two were friends in high school and reacquainted some years later. That sounds like a romance novel come to life.

Did either of you have a crush on the other in high school? Come on! Fess up! I want all the juicy details. Admit it, Brenda. You thought Steve had a cute ass, didn’t you?

Brenda: OMG! No crush. I liked Steve’s personality, but I thought he was shy and didn’t flirt with him. Umm, I never walked behind him in the hall to see his ass! LOL Wish I had, I sure would’ve grabbed onto a cheek! We talk about ‘what if’ sometimes. Well, what if he knew the things I knew or wanted to do – HA he probably wishes I had flirted.

Steve: No crush back then, I knew Brenda’s boyfriends and still talk to some of them to this day. We hung in different social crowds or so I thought back then. Since we have gotten together I have found out Brenda was friends with many of my friends. We never hung out with our mutual friends at the same time.

Casey: Wow! You two had many of the same friends in high school, but didn’t get together until much later. I think it’s awesome you two eventually found each other again. Now I’m getting mushy. Back to the interview.

I see your book, Best Lover in Town, has a new cover. It is quite the hot cover. Okay if I share it? What made you decide to give the book a new cover?

Brenda: The rights to BLT were reverted to us. We re-edited and released with the new cover (since the other cover is owned by the pub house). Our cover actually won 1st place in Book Nook’s Book Cover Event #2 on Facebook! That was exciting. Casey you can promo our cover anywhere you want to – please do.

Steve: Since we self-published Best Lover in Town with a new cover as an ebook, we have sold more copies than when we were with the publisher. I thought the old cover was erotic but the new cover is giving us new readers.

Casey: Congrats on winning first place!

I see you have a release coming out this fall titled, Triangle of Secrets. I love that title. Can you tell us what it’s about and when and where it will be available?

Brenda: I’ll let Steve take over this question. But I will reveal TOS will be a series of five books, and will be available on Smashwords, All Romance, Xcite Books and Kindle.

Steve: Triangle of Secrets is a story of two men and a woman who works for the same company. Each has a secret that could ruin their career. This was our first attempt to write M/M/F. We entered the story into a contest with a work count limitation and got reviews of people wanting more. We expanded the short story into a novella for our fans and will release it soon. While talking in the spa, we developed a plan for more triangles of secrets that can be written as a series. Let’s just say I can’t wait until the F/F/F Triangle of Secrets. Until TOS is released readers can enjoy Best Lover in Town, Temptation Triggers, and Black & White Affair to wet their appetite on our style of writing.

Casey: "Let’s just say I can’t wait until the F/F/F Triangle of Secrets." Steve, you're naughty. I like that. =)

What do you two like to do when you’re not writing?

Brenda: I’m an avid reader. I edit/critique for a few author friends. In the winter time, I like to crochet; helps me relax. I have two favorite places – in the hot tub at night with Steve and laying my head in the crook of his shoulder while sleeping. I know romantic huh.

Steve: I work on my Excel files and chat with fans about what they thought of our writings. I enjoy watching movies and TV (I’m a huge DIY and HGTV fan). Brenda and I find interesting ideas for future works from movies, TV, and everyday life. We keep pen and paper handy as we never know when a new story will hit us.

Casey: What is the creative process like? What happens before sitting down to write?

Brenda: We brainstorm the story; discuss the characters, possible title, the beginning, middle and end of the work. Then we enter the notes into Word and save it in a folder. On a WIP, we typically write at night. Our youngest is still home and in college. She doesn’t like to hear us discuss our dirty books – her words.

Steve: We do a lot of brainstorming in the spa, then come in and type up the notes. Some of the stories have been on the back burning for several months. Something comes up, like a contest, so we put things on hold to meet the contest deadline. So we always have works in progress.

Casey: Do either of you write outside of what you create together?

Brenda: Just my articles, although Steve gives his feedback when I’m writing for a site.

Steve: Brenda and I both wrote before we got together although we had never published a book before. We have written some very spicy emails to each other. Some was in code so no one would understand the real meaning.

Casey: One last, all important question. Chocolate or vanilla ice cream?

Brenda: Oh this is a tough one for sure! LOL I love both. But I usually go for vanilla and add toppings.

Steve: Vanilla for sure. I like variety. I can always add chocolate to vanilla ice cream to make it chocolate but adding vanilla to chocolate ice cream doesn’t make vanilla ice cream. Plus, besides topping on ice cream I like to add fruit or cobbler. Peach cobbler with chocolate ice cream just doesn’t work for me. I told you I was logical.

Casey: You’re right, Steve. Peach cobbler with chocolate ice cream isn’t working. It just seems wrong.

Man of the Week -- Clint Eastwood

The other day, I caught a snippet of the old western television show, RAWHIDE starring Clint Eastwood. The show started on television back in 1959. Mr. Eastwood was 29.

On this show, Clint Eastwood played a supporting character named Rowdy Yates (I love that name).Oh man, was he young looking. He looked younger than 29. As you can see by the photo, his tell-tale squint was well in place, even then.

I've always liked Clint Eastwood, even when I was a kid, and I adored his movies. Well, most of them. Just so you know, I was not even born when Rawhide appeared on television. I wasn't even born when it went off the air. I AM NOT OLD! But I digress.....

To me, his characters are the epitome of the reluctant hero. Always strong and always masculine. The tough guy with a softer side that he tries to keep hidden. A quiet man that keeps to himself, until you mess with him, and the bad guys always do, then he's a dangerous hard ass that doesn't take shit.

Even though his characters don't hesitate to take care of the "bad guys", he always stands up for and protects those who are less fortunate, weaker, and/or defenseless.

There's something I find absolutely alluring about Clint Eastwood's masculinity. I think it's because he never lets you forget he's a man. Whether he's kicking someone's ass or petting a puppy, he exudes strength. Strength of character as well as physical strength.

And the way he walks, oh my god, talk about sexy. That slow, confident swagger, the way his gun belt wraps around those lean hips and the way he rests his hand on the butt of his gun. Oh yeah! Add that famous squint and I'm in heaven.

Movie Monday: True Blood

I know. True Blood isn't a movie. It's a series run on HBO. I don't get HBO. Or any cable, Direct TV, or DishNetwork for that matter.

I live in the boonies. Out in the middle of nowhere. I don't even have internet access at home.

Anyway, I've started renting True Blood from Netflix. I've only just finished episode seven from season one, but I can understand the addiction some people have with this series. The actors do a great job portraying their characters, the story lines are captivating, Bill Compton (Mr. Sexy Vampire played by Stephen Moyer) is dark, dangerous, mysterious, and, very appealing *grin*, and Sam Merlotte (played by Sam Trammell) isn't half bad either.

I have a long way to go to catch up, but at least now I understand what all the hype and drooling is all about. I hope the show stays as good in later seasons as it is in the beginning.

Jeannie: Thank You, Casey. Seeing as I usually sleep with nothing but my man's arms around me, I figured I might as well buy something in my favorite color for this little get together. I've been looking forward to this pajama party for weeks!

Jeannie: I brought some chocolate-dipped raspberries. Would you like some? I thought it fitting because in the beginning of Basket of Hope, my heroine, Kara, is picking raspberries while watching Machias.

Casey: Such a good idea! Thank you. You’re a woman after my own heart! *puts raspberry in mouth* Mmmm…juicy.

Congratulations on your release of Basket of Hope. You must be so happy.

Jeannie: I am! Though it’s a paranormal romance, the setting is in medieval times. Witches, warlocks, and mortals with the daily life of medieval era? Yeah, that was fun to do. Good vs. Evil, Love vs. Duty--Its all in Basket of Hope.

Working with Breathless Press has been seamless--they are timely, professional and keep in close touch with their authors through a yahoo group. Yep, a great company to work with. I sound like a commercial, don't I?

Oh, and their cover art, the artist created just what I was looking for! It sent me into a happy dance. I would show you, but I'd spill this yummy champagne. Uh... I need to breathe--inhale, exhale.

Casey: After the interview, we’ll give everyone some entertainment and do a bit of a Burlesque show. *wink* Right now, why don’t you tell us about yourself. Who is J. M. Powers?

Jeannie: Hmm, well I love chocolate, coffee and summertime. Living in upstate New York, I don't get enough sunny days, so I treasure each one.

I sometimes wonder if ink runs in my veins, because there is always a story flowing from me--I don't know the meaning of writer's block--just the opposite, I can't get my ideas down fast enough. It's not surprising to see me grab a napkin at dinner and start writing some tidbit of conversation that sparked an idea. I feel like something is missing from my day if I don't write. My family senses my bliss when I'm in the midst of creating a new world, characters or conflict in a book, so they support my addiction of the written word. My youngest even bought me a special pad for my laptop. Maybe the blisters on my legs scared him.

Humor is important to me. However, in my case, sometimes laughter erupts instead of tears. Nothing funny about uncontrollable, what is wrong with me, gonna pee my pants, laughter. It's a curse really. Not normal, but I never claimed to be sane.

I love to share. Be it a book, something I learned or a smile. HOWEVER, I don't share my man, the one I'm married to or the hotties in my books. They're mine. All mine!

I tend to ramble a little. Okay, a lot. Can't help it. I think it's all the coffee and chocolate I ingest.

Casey: LOL! Jeannie, you can ramble as much as you want here. People want to get to know you and your rambling is a good way for them to do it.

Tell us a bit about your latest release, Basket of Hope? Would you like to share the blurb?

Jeannie: Oh, we're still talking about sharing are we? lol, I would love to share the blurb. Let me tell you a tiny bit about the two main characters first. Kara is a scullery maid who harbors a secret love for Machais. His duty is to choose a wife at the All Hallows Eve Ball. Machias is steamy, dreamy and downright magical. Okay, I need a refill after thinking of him. *gulps down remainder and holds out glass* Okay,I'll stop rambling.

Here's the book blurb:
All Hallows Eve looms near, and encroaching evil shall have its way if a marriage filled with true love and pure magic does not take place. Machias must choose a witch, something Kara never hopes to be.

Machias’s father will do anything to ensure his son chooses wisely—lies, beatings, and even an attempt to soil Kara’s innocence is not past the man.

Machias’s marriage announcement promises to burn Kara’s hope to cinders…unless something truly magical happens at the All Hallows Eve ball.

Casey: *fills Jeannie’s glass* That’s one tantalizing blurb!

Who or what inspired you to write Basket of Hope?

Jeannie: Initially, Basket of Hope was inspired by a Halloween short story contest. Though I made it to the finals, I didn't win. The story stuck with me, refusing to let go of my imagination. The characters, Kara and Machias, took control from me. I just followed them around, writing what happened next. It was then that Basket of Hope became a book.

Casey: Have you always wanted to write romance?

Jeannie: Yes and no. As a child, I wrote fairy tales that ended with a prince kissing the girl. As a teen, I wrote about love, but it always ended up with the girl alone, tears on her face, watching the guy she loved either walk away or die. That's not very romantic. (shakes head and pops a raspberry in mouth)

In high school, a coach supervising students in study hall stopped me as I left the room. He asked why I always had my head down, writing the whole hour. Apparently, I was the only one working in study hall instead of talking.

Casey: I can relate to that.

Jeannie: I have no idea why I shared my dark secret--writing stories is quite a nerdy thing to do in high school. When he asked if he could read something of mine, I handed him my whole notebook! I regretted it immediately. What if he hates them all? Will he show it to anyone else? Why did I do that? A day of self-doubt and a night of sleepless worry later, I went to study hall, making sure to keep my eyes focused on my hands instead of the raised stage where the coaches sat. I couldn't write anything--well, I take that back. I wrote the words shit, crap and damn repeatedly.

Casey: LOL! I can relate to that, too.

Jeannie: The bell made me jump out of my skin. Slamming my notebook closed, I held it close to my chest and tried to leave unnoticed. No such luck. The coach stopped me and said, "Don't let anyone stop you from writing more stories like these. You have a gift." When I didn't respond, he added. "But why so tragic?"

I almost said it was the way I saw life--but in that moment, I knew it was no longer true. For the first time in my life, I felt like someone believed in me. I swallowed hard and said. "I think that will change now." Tears pricked my eyes at this point, so I left without saying more. I thanked him the next time I saw him, From then on, my romance stories became happier, and full of lands from different eras.

I didn't share my writing with anyone other than him and my sister for years. Now I want to share it with the world.

Okay, all this serious talk is making me feel like I need to crack a joke or something.

Casey: Wow! What a great memory. I need a tissue. Seriously.

Are there any other genres you'd like to try your hand at?

Jeannie: I am working on a non-fiction book about my son and our journey through autism. So, that is quite different from my typical choice of romance. But for the most part, my passion is romance, be it paranormal, historical, contemporary, it doesn't matter. I guess I like the happily ever after ending. Who doesn't?

Casey: A journey through autism is quite an undertaking. Be sure to keep us posted on its progress.

I saw on your website/blog that you write poetry, and some good stuff, too. Is that how you got started writing? When and how did you get started writing? Come on...spill the beans.

Jeannie: You visited my blog? Oh that calls for more chocolate-dipped raspberries and a refill on champagne.

Casey: Of course I visited, you silly goose. I don’t invite just anyone to a pajama party, you know. =D

Jeannie: Well, my blog is a means to connect with my readers and tell about my journey to publication with anyone who cares to hear about it.

Early on I had a love of words. On my sixth birthday all I wanted was a thick book of poetry I spotted at a little book store. My parents gave each other a weird look and bought it. I loved the smell of the pages, the flow of the words--yeah, I was a bit different than most kids my age. I think my cat, who I named Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, was the only one who "got" what I was about.

Casey: Cats usually do.

Jeannie: I began writing poetry after devouring that book--then went on to writing fairy tales by the time I was eight. Other than telling the stories to my kid sister, I didn't share my writing with others until years later.

I would say my writing career started when I joined an online writer's community. I submitted poetry, stories, chapters of one of my books and entered contests. It kept me focused. I learned from fellow writer's suggestions and reviews. From that day forward, my writing flourished. Though it can be scary at first, sharing your work is the only way to improve.

Now, a few years later I have two books published and one full-length historical romance with a publisher. It's in edits now, but you can see a book trailer on my blog. (yeah, I snuck in a promo there, couldn't help myself)

Casey: What do you like to do when you're not writing?

Jeannie: Family is a big part of my life. I have five kids, so I stay busy.

Casey: Five?!?!

Jeannie: Yeah, I said five. Romance is the culprit. My husband is ... well my inspiration in most of my romances. Though I wish I could write full-time, I have a day job as a bank teller. But I do have an outlet. Once every year, my sister and I hide from civilization (Did I mention she's also a writer?). The two of us hole up in a cabin and act like we don't know how to act normal. With the Blue Ridge Mountains as our backdrop, we write, drink margaritas, watch the river while keeping a lookout for bears and laughing about the danger. I told you we don't know how to act normal.

Casey: Would you prefer to be a superhero or super villain? What would your super power be and would your superhero/villain name be?

Jeannie: A super villain would be fun--for about a day. After that, I would suck, because I tend to root for the underdog. So, superhero would be the best choice. I would dress in a skimpy lavender costume--because my body is luscious in my superhero world. My super heroine name? Writer Wench! I would fly around the world on a fountain pen, much like a witch does on her broom, but much more attractive. My hair would move in the breeze like a shampoo commercial too. My super power would be... wait for it...
Bringing all the hot men in my books to life by squirting magical ink from my fountain pen. Oh my... where is that champagne? I need to toast that idea!

Casey: Fly around on a fountain pen? Hair blowing in the breeze like a shampoo commercial? I LOVE IT!!! Okay, Writer Wench, last questions, but they’re the most important ones....do you prefer chocolate cake or vanilla ice cream? And whose rippling abs would you eat it off of?

Jeannie: Chocolate cake... mmmm... rippling abs... ahhhhh. I will need two pieces of cake! A slice on Machias from Basket of Hope, and another on Galeron from Jewel of Ramstone. I am a greedy super heroine. I might need some whipped cream too.

Casey: (note to self: give Jeannie a vat of whipped cream for her birthday). Thanks so much for coming to my Pajama Party, Jeannie. You’re a lot of fun! I had a great time getting to know you, and I'm sure everyone else did, too.

Taking Time Off?

John Morrison

What does taking time off have to do with John Morrison? Absolutely nothing. I just think Mr. Morrison is pretty F@#$@#* Hot and he makes my page look damn good.

My question is a valid one aimed mostly at other authors, or anyone in the creative fields. Do you take any time off between projects? I'm not talking months or weeks. I'm talking days.

More John Morrison. Sorry, I can't help myself. Could you?

If you do take a break, how long is it?

I ask because I'm just about done with one thing and I'm already thinking about the next. But I know me. I know if I don't take a bit of time to get the first project completely out of my head I won't be able to give the new project my full attention, the attention it needs and deserves.

It's also nice to sit back and take a deep breath after finishing one project. "Whew! That's done." I usually do that for about an hour. Maybe a whole day depending on how intense the project was for me.

I have research to do for my second project. Not a lot of research just a bit. I think I'm going to take one whole day away from writing and get my eyes focused on other things (like John Morrison! -lol). My mind will never be far from writing, it never is, I can't help that, but I think I'll sit outside if the weather is nice and enjoy the sun, the fresh air, maybe visit with friends. I'll consider my research time as part of my time off from writing. That way, it will help get my mind fully out of project one and entirely immersed into project two.

Movie Monday - Battle Los Angeles

This was an excellent movie! Loads of action, men in uniform, aliens...what more could you ask for?

It was hard, for me anyway, to follow the action or camera in the beginning of the movie because it was shot like it was live. Jerky camera movements, quick panning, etc. It almost felt as if the cameraman was following each person as stuff was happening. It was a little disconcerting, but once the real action started, I didn't notice the camera stuff any longer.

This was a sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of movie. Just when you think you can relax, something happens and you grip your armrests.

I give it a 5-star rating.

Movie Monday - Tron: Legacy

This movie was much better than I thought it would be. I know I saw the original Tron with Jeff Bridges, the one from 1982 (I think it's from 1982), but I really don't remember much about it. I was just a kid, after all.

If you like sci-fi and action, this movie was good. It stayed on track and didn't through love scenes or sex scenes in it just to have them. The story itself was quite good, although I think they could have gone into more depth, but then the movie would have been way too long.

Sorry this post is sort of weak. I'm going off of memory because I actually watched the movie about a month ago. I've been sort of busy, and with things going on, I forgot some of the details of the movie.

Anyway, on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the best, I would say this is a 3.5. It's definitely worth seeing.

Is this rude?

According to www.dictionary.com, the definition of the word rude is as follows: 1. discourteous or impolite, especially in a deliberate way (there's more, but this first entry fits the bill).

I have a very close friend who is a photographer. I will call this person Jane. Jane is always commenting to me about how difficult it is to find models that are professional and reliable. It pisses Jane off, as well as other photographers, that a model will respond to a casting call, tell the photographer they will contact them, but then they NEVER call. In the meantime, the photographer takes down the casting call because they think they found a model for the job, only to have to put the project on hold so the casting call can be reposted and another search can be done.

That incident certainly fits the bill for rude behavior. It's discourteous, impolite and, not to mention, disrespectful and unprofessional. I give Jane no argument when Jane tells me this is rude.

Now, let's change things up a bit. Since the above example is a professional setting lets make this more on a personal level.

Keeping in mind, Jane's feelings of the models above and that Jane is a very close friend, let's say Jane actually does the very same thing and has done so on numerous occasions. "I'll call you tomorrow" or "I'll call you later tonight" or "I've got to (fill in blank), I'll call you right back in a few minutes". But, like the models above, Jane NEVER calls back.

It's understandable that life happens. Life certainly happens to me. But, at some point, there's a break in the madness where a call can be made. If Jane's double standards have been pointed out to her, but no change is made, is Jane exhibiting rude behavior? Is Jane being disrespectful?

In reality, stuff like that gets under my skin. It's a little thing that really irritates me, but maybe I'm just being petty. I would have told Jane to fuck off. I would find Jane's actions rude, disrespectful, thoughtless and insensitive. You can add selfish to that list, too. Petty or not, those actions would hurt me deeply since we're so close.

But what about you? Would Jane's consistent lack of respect piss you off? Would you stay friends with Jane despite the thoughtless behavior? Is Jane being rude?

A Bit of a Ramble

Thought I'd use that image to catch your attention. I have two reasons for doing so. One, I thought it appropriate to have a Popsicle on a hot day, and it is hot today. 100 degrees (Fahrenheit) and stickier than warm honey.

The second reason, I thought the guys would like it. Yes, you can pretend that's me doing the licking and you can pretend the Popsicle is your...well....errr....You know! =D

Okay, so yesterday, after work, I had to stop at the grocery store. I know, B-O-R-I-N-G. But this visit was very nice. I do mean nice. As I'm squeezing my oranges (Ha!), this tall, young, nubile, man walks past me. Of course, I have to look and check him out, I'm not blind or dead, you know.

He wasn't drop dead gorgeous, he was just average nice looking, confident man. But the body he had was undeniably gorgeous. 6'2" of lean, luscious muscles. And a perfect ass. The guy obviously lifted some weights. His T-shirt was tight, but his jeans weren't. They weren't baggy, but they did hug him nicely in all the right places. I need to fan myself.

I followed him around the store. I put things in my cart that I never knew existed. LOL! No, I didn't talk to him. I'm way too shy to do that. Besides he was younger, maybe 30-ish, and I'm, well, 39 (for the 3rd time). I felt like a cougar.

He even drove a cool car. One of those new Dodge Chargers. It was black with tinted windows. Awesome.

Anyway, later on I was working on my story, Sirus Bandai, thanks to my friend John (on Facebook) for the pep talk. I need those every now and again. I get discouraged often, life intruding and stealing bits of me away, all that stuff. So I need someone to give me a good talking to. John helped me out this time. Thanks John!

Okay, so after writing my 1000 words, I did some reading before bed. Right now I'm reading Dark is the Night by Brindle Chase (damn sexy guy, in my opinion). Normally, I don't like to blat about books I'm reading until I'm done, but not this time. I haven't read many vampire stories lately, because most are so...I don't know the words to use. Too teeny-bopperish (I know it's not a word). Too many characters feel like they're teenagers, no experience, I don't know. Unless the vampire is newly turned and doesn't know his ass from a whole in the ground, then I can understand the newness of it. And....no self-respecting vampire is going to sparkle in the sunlight! That's just wrong! Vampires are dark, dangerous, and yes, sensual. They are not happy-go-lucky sparkly dudes.

So...back to Dark is the Night by Brindle Chase. I'm on chapter 12. I love this book. Brindle wrote his vampire, Alexander, exactly the way a vampire should be. Dark, dangerous, and sexy as hell. The book is dark, erotic, and damn good. I hope Brindle plans on writing more like this. I'm definitely a fan. And, he's inspired me to write something that's been floating around in my mind for a few years. I won't be able to get to it for awhile. Anyway, thanks Brindle.

I really enjoyed Unwrap Me. I know some reviewers tore it to pieces, but in my honest opinion, I didn't see any of the things they had mentioned. I'm beginning to wonder if they read the same book I did.

Unwrap Me is a HOT story. Savannah Chase blends erotica and romance so well.

One of my favorite scenes in the book is the shower scene. That's all I'm going to say about it.

Now, I don’t normally go into long, mushy introductions, but in this case I'm going to make an exception because Eden is exceptional.

I met Eden through an authors loop and she immediately impressed me with her professionalism. She is perfection in her writing, whether email, blog or book. She is one of the nicest people I have had the privilege to meet. A kinder soul you will never find. I consider myself lucky to call her a friend.

Welcome Eden!

Eden: Hi Casey, it’s so cozy with you in your beautiful bedroom. I never get invited to pajama parties since I sleep in the nude, but I’m wearing a special red teddy just for you!

Casey: I love that teddy and thank you for wearing it just for me, but if I had known you slept in the nude I would have made this a Nude Party instead. Now that would have been a lot of fun. Maybe later, okay? Right now, why don't you tell us about yourself. Who is Eden Baylee?

Eden: Hmm, who am I? Such a direct question yet difficult to answer. I’ve never been one to identify myself by what I do, so I’d say first and foremost, I’m a woman who wants to be happy in this lifetime. That includes doing what I love, having my health, and spending time with people I care about. Right now, I have all three, so I feel extremely fortunate.

The more conventional answer: I’m a former Canadian banker who quit my job after twenty years to pursue writing full-time. In February 2011, I launched my first book, Fall into Winter.

Casey: I, for one, am very glad you left banking to write full-time. When and why did you begin writing?

Eden: I started writing in high school as a by-product of my love for wordplay. I’ve been writing erotica since I was fifteen as I enjoyed reading the genre and wanted to see if I could also write it. My first piece was a short story for my high school English class, and I received an “A” on it, though my teacher told me never to show it to my mother! I liked that I got a rise out of him, and it reinforced the notion that I could write.

I’ve had a love affair with reading ever since I could remember. Given that, I’ve always thought it would be cool to be a writer and create my own fantasies with words.

Casey: Tell us a bit about your first book, Fall Into Winter.

Eden: Fall into Winter is a book of contemporary erotica written as four novellas, two take place in the fall, and two in the winter, thus the title. The stories were initially supposed to be sold separately, but I decided to put them together into one book. Though common elements unify them, each is unique and stands alone. The themes include: younger man, older woman; ménage à trois (MFM); past lovers; and second chance at love. It’s rare to find an anthology of erotica by one author, but I wanted to give readers a taste for my writing style and thought this was the best way to showcase it.

Casey: I think it's great that you kept them all together and put them into an anthology. Tell us what your work schedule is like when you’re writing?

Eden: When I’m writing, I write 2000 words a day or my ass does not get off the couch. OK, I take bio breaks and eat, but I push myself, and sometimes my head really, really hurts from it.

Casey: What is one thing about you that we would be surprised to know?

Eden: Oh Casey, I’m pretty much an open book, (heh) …thinking…okay, I’m a lazy eater and don’t like to chew my food. Because of that, I eat much too quickly, and I’m usually the first one to finish my meals, no matter who I’m eating with.

Casey: I can confidently say that I'm surprised to know that (note to self: Make Jell-o for Eden). What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

Eden: My favorite thing to do is spend time with people I care about. I love intimate conversation, debate, and laughter. Throw in some food and wine, and that’s my formula for a good time.

Casey: Do your family and friends know about your writing? If so, what do they think of it?

Eden: Yes, everyone who knows me knows what I do. I spent years working in the corporate world, and many of my former co-workers are close friends, so I would never expect them to keep a secret for me. The rumor mill runs amok in that type of environment anyway. I had some reservations about telling my family, not because I was writing erotica, but because I was quitting my secure job to pursue something “artistic,” which I thought they would translate as “I was going to starve.”

In the end, the people who are closest to me just want me to be happy and are supportive of my writing. I couldn’t ask for anything more than that, and frankly, at this stage in my life, I really couldn’t give a damn what other people think.

Casey: That feisty side of you is quite a turn on. I like it. What is the hardest part about writing?

Eden: The hardest part about writing is writing. Plain and simple. I liken it to any other job. Sometimes my mind just doesn’t want to do it. It doesn’t mean I don’t try, but I realize I’m not giving 100%. This is not acceptable to me. I’m very hard on myself, and it’s a constant struggle to do the best I can.

Casey: I know music is very important to a lot of authors, many of them listening to it while writing. Every Monday, you post Music Monday on your blog leading me to believe music is also important to you. You highlight such a wide variety of music. I have found there aren't many people out there that have such varied taste in music unless they are musicians. Do you play an instrument? Where did you get, or how did you develop, such an appreciation for music and in such diversity?

Eden: Yes, I love music. I had my first taste of it with Alvin and the Chipmunks doing the Beatles on a reel-to-reel tape deck! That was many, many moons ago. As much as I love it, I don't write with it playing. I need complete silence as I'm easily distracted by lyrics. I'm one of those annoying people whom you can be having a conversation with, and I will suddenly tune into a song that just came on the radio and start singing along. (I try not to do that anymore!)

Musical Mondays was a way to showcase some of my favorite musicians. I have a range of music that I enjoy listening to, but primarily I love blues, jazz, and rock. I've always enjoyed different types of music, so when anyone introduced me to something new, I would at least give it a listen. Music that has stood the test of time is what I tend to listen to over and over — Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, Nina Simone are just some I've highlighted. Like reading a book, I want music to move me, so that's what I look for.

I play guitar and harmonica, but I haven't played in a while, and I'm very shy about playing for anyone. It's like my writing. Unless I feel it's damn near perfect, I don't like to share (even though I know it can never be perfect).

Casey: What do you think is the coolest or best part about your book? (Any favorite scenes, the world building, etc.)

Eden: The coolest part has to be the world building. Sure, there’s hot steamy sex because it is erotica, however, diverse storylines with characters that come to life are what challenge me to write.

As an example, in my second story, “Act Three,” I had a wonderful time learning about dungeons. Building a story with a dungeon, all the paraphernalia that go into them, and creating characters to inhabit the scenes are what I love most about writing. Add in the element of sex, and my hope is that readers will pick up my book and feel transported to a faraway place that’s warm, emotional, and sexy.

Casey: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Eden: Ha! I’ve toyed with many a great career in my head—dominatrix, assassin, secret agent, and oh yeah, writer. In the end, my pragmatic side convinced me to write my fantasies rather than live them.

Casey: You'd make one sexy secret agent! Of course, you're already a sexy writer.

Movie Monday - Pirates of the Caribbean 4

Monday, yesterday, was July 4th and being such, I was home. It being a holiday and all. So, I'm doing my Movie Monday today. Tuesday, in case you forgot.

I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides while I was on vacation. The day was hot, humid and rainy, and I needed to get out of the house, so I went to the movie theater.

I liked this movie a lot. Much more of Captain Jack Sparrow in this one meaning more shots of Depp (which is always good in my book), great action, and humor.

Penelope Cruz did a pretty good job with her character. I wasn't expecting much from her acting abilities, but I was pleasantly surprised. I have to admit I was liking her Spanish accent.

I recommend this one, especially if you've already seen the first three Pirate movies.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

"Bond. James Bond." I am one of the biggest 007 fans you will ever know. I have seen every one of the movies, probably more than once (definitely more than once). My favorite "Bonds" are Sean Connery and Daniel Craig.

When Casino Royale came out I was leery of Craig as the new Bond. I knew nothing about him. As far as I was concerned at the time, I felt I should have been consulted in their choice. That's right! I SHOULD have been consulted, damn it (lol). Or, at the very least, I should have been permitted to give Craig a job interview. How dare they mess with my Bond!

When the movie opened in November, I went to see it right away. I got there early. Good thing, too. Everyone wanted to check out this new Bond dude.

With Mike and Ike's, popcorn and soda in hand, my mom and I got our seats (yes, I took my mom. That's how much of a dweeb I am. Hey! She's a widow. She needs to get out). When the movie ended, I sat in awe. Candy, popcorn and soda untouched. My eyes wide and twinkling with excitement, I leaned over to my mom and declared, "I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN!"

And I did.

Six times.

I even went to the midnight showing on New Year's Eve (something only a dweeb would do).

The movie was incredible, exciting, heart pounding. Craig was awesome. I thought James Bond was a sexy spy character, but Craig made him ultra-sexy. He brought a level of hotness that is scorching to see. Needless to say, I now own a copy of the movie and have watched it numerous times.

The car in the movie, Aston Marten, is simply gorgeous. The roll that they have the car make at one point, actually made a world record for the number of times it rolled over. Spectacular scene.

If you haven't watched the movie I highly recommend it. Even if you don't like Bond movies, Daniel Craig is worth it. Not to mention, he has one hell of a sexy voice.

Man of the Week - William Holden

William Holden was one of my grandmother's favorite actors. I can see why. He looks very much like my grandfather when he was young.

William Holden was married to Stephanie Powers. Actually, I don't know that they were actually married, maybe they just lived together (gasp).

He died in 1981 from emphysema, at the relatively young age of 63.

The only thing I can recall seeing him in, is an episode of I Love Lucy where he played himself. I'm sure I've seen other movies or shows with him in it, but I can't seem to recall any at the moment.

He has very refined good looks. At least I think so.

Just in case you haven't figured it out, I'm a dweeb.

I'm a klutz, too, but I'll save that subject for another post.

Back to the subject at hand...what does being a dweeb have to do with Lord of the Rings? Well, it's my understanding that most fans of the LOTR trilogy are, or have to be, dweebs (LOTR=Lord of the Rings for you non-dweeb types out there). Whether this is true or not, I guess is a matter of opinion.

I stand here in my dweeb costume, cape and all, proud of my love for the LORD OF THE RINGS movies. All three of them. I like the fantasy world, the "creatures" (for lack of a better term), the sword fights, the mystery, the adventure. All of it. The intricacy of the plot, subplots, and the world that Tolkien built. LOVE it.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take off my cape before I trip over it. LOL!

Movie Monday - You've Got Mail

Okay, so it's not Monday. Big deal. I'm on vacation!

Yes, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are together yet again. They make a cute couple, don't they? At least in the movies they do.

I know loads of people liked Sleepless in Seattle, and so did I, but of the two, You've Got Mail is my favorite. Especially Tom Hanks character.

What's not to like about this movie? It's another romantic comedy, but so what? I like romantic comedies (some of them)

This movie has the hero and heroine owning their own bookstores. I write books. Perfect match!

It has humor, obviously, or it wouldn't be a comedy. I like to laugh. Another perfect match.

Even the dog gets in on the act. I like animals. Dogs are animals. Third and final perfect match.

Honestly, it's a cute movie and it's funny. If you like Tom Hanks, it's a perfect match.

If you haven't watched it, I recommend it.

The Race at Belmont

The last race of the Triple Crown was run on June 11th, but since I'm on holiday/vacation this week, I can't tell you who won the race. If I could do that, I'd be rich.

I can tell you, what I did. Actually, it's what I'm planning to do because I'm writing this post ahead of time and scheduling it go live today.

I'm staying home to watch the race. I'm having my mom, and a couple of her friends from work, over to watch it with me.

I like to experiment with food. Nothing too weird mind you, I'm not THAT adventurous. I want to be able to eat when I'm hungry. I'm fortunate to have a mom who doesn't mind being a Guinea pig for my food experimentations. My step-dad was the same way. It was great cooking or baking for them when I wanted to try out a new recipe.

Anyway, after the Preakness (http://casey-sheridan.blogspot.com/2011/05/preakness-and-food.html) I bought a small jar of Chardonnay Wine Jelly. I had no idea what to do with it at the time, but did receive some good suggestions from you.

I did what any good scientist does; I grabbed my Guinea pig and performed an experiment.

I purchased a loaf of wonderful, freshly baked French bread. You know the kind with the hard crusty crust and the soft, fragrant, melt-in-your-mouth middle. The kind where you put a small dollop of real, creamy butter on the warm center and as the butter melts you pop the bread in your mouth so you can melt right along with the butter. That's the kind I bought.

So, French Bread cut into little slices, sliced Gruyere cheese, Chardonnay Wine Jelly, slices of apple and pear, along with some Prosciutto and I had a feast that was delicious. Any combination of these ingredients was mouthwateringly good. It didn't matter what was paired up, it was beyond yummy.

Needless to say, this experiment was a great success. So much so, that I am going to confidently predict that my Belmont "party" will also be a success.

Now, if only I could predict the winner of the race..........

The Preakness and Food

This past Saturday was the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness, and it's run at Pimlico Race Track in Maryland.

It was a warm day in Maryland, according to news reports, it was around 80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit at the race track.

Unfortunately, Animal Kingdom didn't finish first, so this will be another year without a Triple Crown winner.

Animal Kingdom came in at a very close second to Shackleford who crossed the finish line first. If the race would have been another quarter of a mile longer, Animal Kindgom probably would have won since he is a "come from behind" type of horse. He started off the race second to last, and at the three-quarter post, where everyone makes their move, he had already moved up to fourth. It was an exciting race.

I didn't go anywhere special this time to watch the race, just headed over to my mom's where it was just the two of us and the dog. We pigged out on pizza and root beer floats.

June 11th is the Belmont, the last leg of the Triple Crown, run at Belmont Park in NY. I'll be home this time as well, but I don't know what to have as far as food. It will be me, my mom, and two of her friends from work. I did get some Chardonnay Jelly, because it sounded cool, but I don't know what to do with it, or what to serve it with.

Oh well. I'm sure I'll figure something out. But if you have any suggestions on what to serve and/or how to utilized my Chardonnay Jelly, feel free to let me know.

FUNNY WORDS AND PHRASES!

I know, I haven't done one of these for a long time. Usually, I use funny words or phrases I find for our genitalia or sexual intercourse. (Sexual intercourse? Aren't I sounding very June Clever-ish)

Anyway, I decided to use a word that I'm sure we are all familiar with. A word I, and many others, have used since childhood. One that still makes me giggle. And the word is....

DINGLEBERRY

What is a dingleberry, you ask? I found a couple definitions out in cyber-land.

According to www.dictionary.com, a dingleberry is a particle of fecal matter attached to an anal hair (describes a few people I know)

The Urban Dictionary says this: A delinquent partial turd which grasps anal shrubbery causing brownish crust to accumulate in ones boxers. (Eww!). The Urban Dictionary also says dingleberries are only found in manly butts. I guess that would explain some of the "manly" odors out in the world.

There you have it, folks. And please remember, if you like to play with dingleberries, wash your hands before you eat.

Movie Monday.....Not Really

Movie Monday will be back next week since I was busy with the Kentucky Derby this past weekend. I had a pretty good time. Ate too much food.

It was an exciting race once you got past all the stupid fluff of celebrities who are only there because it's "cool" and then there's the hats. Although, to be quite honest, it's fun watching the hat parade. There's some really outrageous hats out there.

Archarcharch, stumbled when he left the gate and ended up with some cartilage damage. After his surgery, the owners thought it best to retire him from racing. I guess he'll be a stud now. What guy would complain about that?

Next it's the Preakness run at Pimlico race track in Maryland on May 21st.

"Go Baby Go!"

If you're planning on calling me on Saturday afternoon...DON'T!

It's Derby Day and I won't be home. I'll be at a party to watch the race. Even if I were home, I wouldn't answer the phone. I'd still be busy watching the race.

Never, never, NEVER do I miss the Kentucky Derby. I could be bleeding from both eyes and I would wait until after the race was run before high-tailing it to the hospital.

I will guarantee this much: If anyone at this party I'm going to bothers me, talks to me, or in anyway tries to engage my attention away from the race, they'll end up with a fat lip.

It never fails, of course. Getting together is just another excuse for these people to get drunk. They don't care about the race. I'm not against having a few cocktails, but the Kentucky Derby is serious stuff. I want to watch the horses and the race, not hear about how six year old Jimmy is now a genius because he learned to piss in the toilet instead of his pants.

LOL!

I'm not really that bad when it comes to the race. Well, sort of. I do watch the race and hate it when I miss something because someone else around thinks it's stupid.

So, don't call me on Saturday. I'm telling you now I'm busy. Unless, of course, you want a fat lip. (just kidding) =D

Cancer Kitty

Just in case you're interested, my kitty that has cancer, seems to be doing okay.

The day after I brought him home from the vet his face swelled up, but he acted like it wasn't any big deal. He ate and drank and slept like he normally does. I bought him a huge bag of Fancy Feast crunchy food, which he loves, and a few of the small little cans of Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers. I also refilled his mouse with fresh catnip, but he doesn't seem to be too interested in that. The other cat absolutely loves it and got it all spitty, which was really gross when I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and accidentally stepped on this cold, wet thing. Ewww!

Yesterday I noticed that the swelling of his face was almost gone, so maybe the swelling was just caused by the vet poking him with a syringe in two places in order to draw blood and check the cells for cancer.

Kitty will be 15 years old this year. I think that's about average for a cat, isn't it?

Thanks to everyone who commented on FB and Twitter, showing concern. I really appreciated it.

I'll keep everyone posted on how he is doing, but so far so good.

He's not in any pain, and he's eating and drinking like normal. He does sleep a lot, but then he's 15 which I think is equivalent to around 105 in human years. I guess I'd sleep a lot too, if I were 105. Wouldn't you?

Movie Monday - It's a menagerie!

Okay, this weekend I managed to watch three, yes three, movies, read AND get some writing done. I'm amazed. Truly. Usually I struggle to get one of those things in my schedule, but I managed to get all three done.

Movies are my escape from everything. From reading, writing, day job, laundry, you name it. Considering I used to own a video rental store, movies just seem like the natural thing to turn to. Of course, when I owned the store, I hated watching movies. LOL!

I started by watching Tangled with my niece on Friday night. It was boring. Even my niece, who is almost four, thought it was boring. It had a few funny points, but overall it was boring. It definitely gets two thumbs down. One from me and one from niece.

This was a bit corny. Sort of funny in a corny way and I know they didn't mean for this movie to be either corny or funny. Lon Chaney, Jr. is much better as the werewolf than the son of Dracula. Honestly, I feel asleep so I missed the ending. I'm sure I didn't miss much.

This was actually pretty good. I don't know if they intended the bits of humor to be in it or not, but I did find the scenes of the Invisible man wearing nothing but a dress shirt and dancing around to scare the locals quite funny.

The effects in the movie were pretty good considering it was made before any real good effects were around.

I did feel sorry for him because he went insane from the formula, but at the same time, he was a nasty person after that.

I had popcorn, M&M's, and soda all at the ready. I had never seen this movie before, although I have heard about it and seen clips here and there. My youngest brother used to watch these movies when we were kids, but since they were on late, I always fell asleep. I wasn't a night owl. I'm still not, really.

I'm pleased to report that this wasn't anywhere near as campy as I thought it would be. It was a pretty good movie actually. I liked it. I can see why it would have been scary when it first came out in 1954.

I told my mom I watched it and she told me when she was a kid, her and her family went to the drive-in when the movie first came out to watch it. She said she hid under her blanket because it was such a scary movie. I guess when you're eight years old, it really is a scary movie. For me....I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around the whole "drive-in" concept.

Anyway, if you like classic horror movies, this is one you need to watch.

A bit of trivia I learned from the Svengoolie show; the actress in this flick, Julia Adams, at the time had her legs insured for $125,000 EACH. I will admit, she did have awfully nice legs in the movie.

Man of the Week - Robert Mitchum

I haven't done a Man of the Week for quite some time.

I decided to stop because so many other blogs have a hot man post once a week. Now, don't get me wrong...I love all the hot, nearly naked men that are posted up on various blogs. There are some people, such as Lisa Fox, Savannah Chase and Renee Vincent, who have a knack for posting some very extraordinary examples of masculinity (Thank you, ladies!).

I decided I wanted to do something a bit different. To pay tribute to some of the men from the past that made a woman's heart go pitter-pat. To show off the icons of yesterday that started this "hot man" saga we find ourselves on today.

This month I chose Robert Mitchum.

My mom and I were talking about movie stars the other day and she mentioned one of her favorites was Robert Mitchum. I can understand why. He has that "naughty" gleam in his eye. The "I'm a bad boy" twinkle. That smirk that says, "I'm bad and you love it"

Movie Monday - Dragon Training

I know a lot of people are going to wonder why I would watch a cartoon or animated movie. I happen to like cartoons. Scooby Doo, Bugs Bunny, Monsters Inc., Walt Disney's Beauty and the Beast...you get my point.

How To Train Your Dragon was very good and it had a lot of humor in it that I think would go right over a kid's head. It was an engaging movie and fun to watch.

The best part? Gerard Butler was the voice for Stoick the Vast. God, I love that Scottish accent. It was worth watching just for that alone. But even if you're not a Gerry fan, I recommend the movie.

So, anyone else watch this? What did you think of it?

Casey: Welcome Daniel! Please make yourself comfortable. You can curl up next to me on the bed while we chat. Can I get you anything? A bowl of warm milk or a can of tuna?

Daniel: Thank you. I love tuna. But I’d hate to make a mess eating in your bed.

Casey: That’s very sweet of you to be concerned about the mess.

For those that aren’t familiar with you and your work, please tell us a bit about yourself and what you do.

Daniel: I write, voice, and produce hypnotic erotic audio stories. These are erotic audio stories told with hypnotic language patterns that draw the listener into the story. You know how when you read a book, you begin to visualize the people and actions being described. And when you find a heroine that you can identify with, you enjoy imagining yourself in her place living out the story. The hypnotic language I use amplifies that imagining and enhances your ability to visualize the scene. The listener can literally put herself in the story, seeing and feeling every touch and every kiss as I describe them. It’s a unique way to explore both the physical and emotional aspects of different sexual fantasies.

Some of the recordings also include positive affirmations and post-hypnotic suggestions to enjoy greater pleasure with real-life lover(s). This makes them useful as sexual enhancements. I have one fantasy that helps increase a woman’s overall desire for sex, one that helps women discover greater emotional satisfaction from performing fellatio, and one that increases your awareness of your sense of touch. And of course, they’re all very erotic and entertaining.

Casey: I read on your site that you have been practicing hypnosis since the late 1980’s. What was it exactly that drew you to hypnosis?

Daniel: I grew up with the idea. I saw hypnosis in movies, TV shows, comic books, and even cartoons. Hypnosis, seduction, and mind control are some of the most popular themes in modern literature … even if you don’t call cartoons ‘literature’. Gilligan’s Island, Get Smart, Underdog, Scooby Doo, Josie and the Pussycats, Superfriends, Lost in Space, Star Trek, Wonder Woman, H.R. Puff ‘n Stuff, and many others had episodes that used hypnosis as a plot device in at least episode. Then, of course, there were the Hammer Studios’ Dracula movies. Dracula was always hypnotizing and seducing pretty women.

When I see someone hypnotized, I see them drop all their mental barriers. They become open, receptive, and mentally connected to the hypnotist. In some stories, the hypnotized person becomes a vessel for the hypnotist’s desires or an avatar acting out his will. I’ve always seen that as very sensual and erotic.

When I came online in 1998, I found I wasn’t the only person who saw hypnosis this way. The last 13 years have seen rise to over a dozen online communities focusing on the erotic nature of hypnosis.

Casey: I know you write your own stories. When did you start writing? Did you start writing erotic content right away or was that something that developed over time?

Daniel: I’ve written fiction off and on since high school. I started with science fiction and fantasy. Then I worked as a technical writer for 17 years. Since I left that profession, I’ve focused more on erotic fiction; producing mostly erotic hypnosis stories. I wrote my first erotic hypnosis script in 2000, and produced my first recording in 2002. So far, I have produced fifteen hypnosis recordings; thirteen of which are erotic stories.

Casey: Where do you get your ideas for your stories?

Daniel: Everywhere. Each of my audio stories contains elements from many sources. Hypnotically Seduced, for example, contains ideas inspired by one of the old Beeline erotic novels and an old vampire movie. Obedient Desire contains elements inspired by chat room conversations. A Tango in Subspace is a paranormal romance, which contains elements inspired by my limited understanding of Jungian psychology and a description of the Tango inspired by Antonio Banderas in Take the Lead. Demon Seed contains elements inspired by several erotic horror novels I read back in the 1980s.

I’m also writing my first full-length novel. There are elements in this novel inspired by conversations with friends, novels like J.R. Ward’s Dark Lover, the TV show White Collar, several amateur stories on mcstories.com, and — don’t laugh — much of the lead female’s personality was inspired by a book on marketing.

Casey: I listened to the preview you have on your website and you have a nice voice. I noticed during the preview that the volume of your voice seemed to become softer as the preview played. Was I just imagining that?

Daniel: Thank you. You’re not imagining that. I introduce each audio story in a normal speaking tone of voice. And as I get into the actual story, I talk with a more sensual or intimate tone. This change draws the listener in, like a whisper. As the listener focuses more on my voice, she becomes more receptive to the emotions I convey with tone and inflection. Remember, I’m not just hypnotizing my listener, I’m conveying desire and excitement (just like an actor) and creating a deeply erotic experience. In many cases, my listeners become so engrossed in this experience that they actually orgasm along with the character in the story.

Casey: Your latest, Trance Junkie, was released on February 17th. Congratulations! Can you tell us about it and where it’s available?

Daniel: Thank you again.

Trance Junkie is a fantasy for extremely submissive women. As you listen you become this woman who is interviewing me about hypnosis addictions. You’re wondering if it’s really possible to become so addicted to being hypnotized, that you’d let a man use you any way he wants. To explain how the addiction can happen, I hypnotize you and show you the life of someone who is experiencing this addiction. You feel the bliss of being hypnotized and the craving for it; and you experience how the craving can grow until it takes over your life. You feel what it’s like to be willing to let a man do anything he wants to you to satisfy your need to be hypnotized. And then you experience the humiliation of having your addiction displayed for a group of strangers.

Obviously, this fantasy is not for everyone. But each of my recordings explores a different fantasy or a different type of sexuality. I started with more vanilla fantasies and worked up to the kinkier scenarios. Trance Junkie is my fourth D/s fantasy, but my first fantasy specifically about sexual humiliation and addiction.

Casey: What are you working on now?

Daniel: I have several projects in the works. I have written my first novel, and I’m looking for an agent or publisher. I’m rehearsing my next hypnosis recording and researching ideas for future recordings. My novel is about how a demonstration of erotic hypnosis leads to two relationships: one inspiring and creative, the other abusive and destructive. My hypnotic hero gets recruited by the FBI to infiltrate a sexual slavery ring. He falls for a woman who is searching for her missing sister, and together they bring down the slavers. The novel contains lots of erotic hypnosis scenes, and it’s very hot. My next recording is a short program designed to create more of an emotional connection between performing the Kegel exercises and staying in touch with their sexuality. It’s not a story, just a simple hypnosis program (which I’m hoping to finish in 2-3 weeks). And I’m researching the Gorean subculture for a more uplifting dominance and submission fantasy, which I’m tentatively calling Essence of a Slave.

Casey: What do you surround yourself with in your work area in order to help you create and/or concentrate?

Daniel: I’ve moved 5 times in the last ten years (and spent about eight weeks in hotel rooms). So I don’t have a dedicated work area. I write on a laptop computer. Whenever possible I sit outside on the front porch. Sometimes after exercise, I’ll sit on the weight bench and write or edit. But other than that, lately I’ve been locked in my messy bedroom, laying in a beanbag chair. Of course, I have pictures of beautiful women on my computer. And often I’ll play music, sometimes smooth jazz guitar, sometimes light rock ‘n roll.

Casey: Wow! That’s a lot of moving around. I can see why you don’t have a dedicated work area.

Okay, here’s the all important information that we must have: Would you be a super hero or super villain? What would be your super power? What would be your super hero/villain name?

Daniel: I’d be an evil mind-controlling villain. After I take down the tobacco and junk mail industries. I’d surround myself with beautiful women who are devoted to pleasing me in every way possible. And no one would know my name, they’d just call me “Master” — Muahahaha

Casey: Hmmm, why doesn’t that surprise me? *wink*

Movie Monday - Unstoppable

This was one really good movie.

I know you're thinking, how good can it be? It's about a runaway train, big deal.

Well, it's sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat-gripping-the-arm-rests good.

Denzel Washington is a nice looking man and he is a pretty good actor, although I don't feel his characters have much range. His characters seem to have the same attitude no matter what role they are in. They may look different, but they all have the same personality.

In all honesty, I watched this movie for Chris Pine. There's something about those magnificent blue eyes of his and I felt his acting quality in this movie was much better than Denzel's. His character in here was much, much different than James T. Kirk in the Star Trek movie.

Maybe Denzel should take acting lessons from Chris.

Anyway, I thought this was a really good movie and I recommend it. I think I'm going to start rating the movies I watch. On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the best, I give this movie a 4 stars.

Movie Monday - A Fish Called Wanda

Kevin Kline is wonderful, simply wonderful, as Otto. Funny, dangerous, jealous, and, yes, stupid, in his own weird way.

The rest of the cast did a great job as well, but it's Kevin Kline's performance that really stuck with me. I believe he may have won an Oscar- Best Supporting Actor, for his character Otto. Not sure though.

This is one of my favorite movies. It's funny and sexy, and man, do I wish I were built like Jamie Lee Curtis!

Anyway, I chose A Fish Called Wanda for my Movie Monday because Wanda, the character played by Jamie Lee Curtis, and my Alaina, from my upcoming release, Ruby Red Metallic, are very much alike.

Both women are gorgeous. Both of them are strong, confident, and sexy. Both women know exactly what they want and aren't afraid to go after it.

Even though Ruby Red Metallic isn't a comedy, I do hope you enjoy reading it when it comes out.
